Moodbidri;August 21 : State Minister for Youth Services and Fisheries K Abhayachandra Jain has said that he would not allow the setting up of the thermal power plant at Niddodi and was ready to fight for the cause of the people. He also stated that he along with four ministers from the district would be leaving for Delhi within a week to urge the Government to drop the project.
He was speaking after accepting a memorandum submitted to him by about 60 people belonging to the Kudubi community from Niddodi, Badagamijaru, Muchur, Puttige and Kompadavu villages. The Minister also assured that he would see to it that the Kudubi community was not harmed in any way.
The memorandum submitted to the minister stated that the proposed project at Niddodi would destroy the agriculture and also the lives of the people of the area and also the residents of Tenkamijar, Badagamijar, Muchur, Puttige and Kompadavu. It also stated that over 1500 families of Kudubis would be hit hard and their distinct culture and customs like Gunta, Holihabba, Vana Bhojana and Kolata will be a thing of past. The Kudubis have contributed in their own way to enrich the culture of Tulunad and the government must drop the project at the earliest, the memorandum stated.
