Haneef had placed the needle of suspicion on Razia’s husband for the double murder
The brother of Razia, who was murdered along with her daughter Zuha Fathima in Panjimogeru two years ago, was assaulted allegedly by his brother-in-law in Panjimogeru on the outskirts of the city on Friday afternoon.
According to Haneef, the assault followed the press conference and protests they had held earlier in the month, wherein they called for a CBI investigation. Haneef had, quite vocally, placed the needle of suspicion on Razia’s husband Hamid for the double murder that took place on June 28, 2011.
Around 1.45 p.m. on Friday, while Haneef was exiting the Panjimogeru Juma Masjid, his brother-in-law Hameed and his brothers Abdul Sattar, Abdul Rehman and Mohiuddin pounced on him and assaulted him. He suffered injuries to his shoulder and leg. “They told me that they will prove that I killed my sister and started to assault me,” Haneef told The Hindu. He said the men had been angered by the preparations for the day-long protest on September 6 (to be spearheaded by the Democratic Youth Federation of India), as well as drafting a letter to the Governor and Prime Minister asking for a CBI probe.
A complaint alleging assault was registered at the Kavoor Police Station late on Friday
