Mangalore, September 4: Kuriya Ganapathi Shasthri will be honoured with Kateel Gopalakrishna Asranna Award- 2013 and golden medal at Kateel Goapalakrishna Memorial hall on September 7 in the evening, said S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and Navaneeth Shetty Kadri in a press release.
Introduction: Ganapathi Shasthri born at Kuriya, Paivalike of Manjeshwara on August 12, 1958 and third son of Kuriya Ramashasthri and Gangamma couple. He has completed his primary education in Kurudu padavu, high school in Vijay, P.U in St. Aloysius College and degree at Vivekananda, Puttur.
Kuriya family has good name in the Yakshagana history and his family members also involved themselves in the Yakshagana art. He learnt to dance and speak from his father’s brother, who was famous in the name of Nataraja. He acted in the Mahishasura, Kamsa, Ravana and other part and late. Parekodi Malinga, Hosahithlu Malinga Bhat, Chipparu Krishnayya Ballal, Prof. Amruth Someshwara,late.KalladiVitala Shetty were his teachers. During the emergency he was kept in the Kaannur jail for six month. After the operation he turned as Bhagavatha.
On 1975, he joined late. Kalladi Vitala shetty’s troup and worked by putting the heart and soul to Yakshagana. 1984, he married to Shyamala and along with happy family, he reached height of success.
