Udupi; Sept 12: Election for the selection of President and Vice president of Udupi Corporation will be held today. This is applicable only to those corporations, who have appealed against the recent injunction (stay order) of High court. If election schedule has already been published, Friday’s stay order will not be applicable.Udupi corporation’s time table has already been published and hence DC and their DC has informed that an election for the selection of president and vice president in Udupi Corporation ,will be held on Sept 12,Thursday.
Election formalities will commence at 3.00 pm on September 12, Thursday. President post will be reserved for scheduled caste and for vice president post generally will be reserved for woman candidates. For president candidature, Yuvaraj of Subramanya city ward and Sandhya Kumari of Vadabandeshwara ward are eligible and since the vice president post has been reserved for woman candidate, it is certain that Yuvaraj will be elected unanimously as the new president, sources said.
For Vice president Post 10 women contestants are eligible, apart from senior members Amritha Krishnamurthy, Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje, Janaki Ganapati Shettigar, new face Celene Karkada’s name also in the list of Vice president.
Since there was a tough competition between three women candidates Amritha Krishnamurthy, Geetha Shet and Celene Karkada,yesterday a secret ballot was held and selection of Vice President will be made today based on the result of yesterday’s secret ballot. As per the reliable sources nomination will be submitted by 10.00 am and election will be held in the afternoon.
Though congress has got the ruling mandate after 45 years in March, it has been delayed by six months for the selection of president and vice president due to delay in the preparation of time table(election schedule).
