Kaup;Oct 02 : After receiving appeals and memorandum from various organizations, sanghatanas and local body administrations for the construction of fly-over at Kaup and under-pass at Katpadi in the meeting , Oscar Fernandez, union transport and highways, surface road minister said in his address in front of the media reporters that  in  view  of  avoiding  daily recurring accidents  and  traffic  snarls  in  the  Karnataka’s coastal region on  NH66, acquisition of 60  Mtr width land was inevitable for widening the road along with the four-lane construction works on NH 66.

No need of comparison between-Kerala-Goa-Karnataka

Discussion has been in the air since long time that when it was in Kerala 30 meter acquisition, in God 40 Mtr acquisition, why it can’t be 60 meter in Karnataka?

In Kerala and Goa, the cost of the land is exorbitant and volume of traffic movements are also less, where as in Karntaka, that too in coastal belt, traffic movement is unbelievable and there is no limit for that.Besides, as traffic movements are increasing on alarming speed, the 60 meter land what we have acquired now, will not be sufficient in future, then we may have to face worst condition than this, he said.

Delay from the department only

He further said that in one side, the work is progressing at faster speed, whereas on the other side, work is getting stucked due to various reasons. Since both the problems are complicated, the work is not getting delayed due to contractors but due to some procedural delay from the NHA department itself, he clarified. However,it is expected to finish the four-lane works at least before the commencement of coming monsoon, he added.

Technical solution to the problem at Padubidri, Kaup and Katpadi

With regard to solving the dispute, which aroused at the time of commencement of four-lane works, after discussing the matter with NHA authorities and local representatives in the meeting. Instructions would be given to the authorities to survey the places again and find out some viable solutions for the problems faced by the residents, he assured.

Meeting under the leadership of Jayaprakash Hegde, Lok Sabha, MP

Continuing his speech, he said that there was a heavy demand for the construction of fly-over at Kaup, bye-pass or extension of roads at Padubidri and under-pass at Katpadi. Construction works got delayed due to all these problems aroused at the time, when NH 66 work was in progress. However, concrete decision would be taken only after holding meeting with concerned authorities, under the leadership of Jayaprakash Hegde, Lok Sabha, MP and he will be empowered full authority to take the decision, he added.
