St. Aloysius College gets Community College status

Mangalore, Oct. 25: St. Aloysius College (autonomous) has been granted “Community College” status by UGC on the recommendation of the state government said Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal of the College.

Addressing the press meet here on Friday October 25 he said.

The unique scheme of Government of India offers a great opportunity for those who are deprived of degree education after their PU course to pursue higher education which is job oriented.

The programme will be administered in three stages- Certificate, Diploma and Associate Degree. The Certificate Course and Diploma course will have 6 months’ duration each and the Associate Degree will have duration of one year. The student can get into the job after completing any of the above mentioned stages.

.A sum of Rs.40 Lakhs has been sanctioned.

The college presently offers two certificate/diploma programmes – computer animation and networking, and travel and tourism – for a period of 6 months, with course duration of 240 hours each. The minimum qualification is PUC.

The Principal of the college has appealed to all those who are seeking jobs and who cannot pursue higher education to make use of this unique opportunity.
