Manipal,October 26: IDEEA-2nd year, was inaugurated by Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake, Honorable Minister for urban development and district in charge of Government of Karnarata and Dr.H.S.Ballal, Pro Chancellor of Manipal University presided over the function.

Manipal Hemophilia Society in association with Manipal University and Kasturba Hospital Manipal launched IDEEA 2nd year  (Identification, Diagnosis, Education and Empowerment) for action on persons with bleeding disorders in South India is a project funded by Novo Nordisk Hemophilia Foundation, Switzerland.

During this programme scholarships for higher education were given to twelve youth with bleeding disorders from various placed in Karnataka and Kerala. The Scholarship awardees were able to pursue higher education with some of them doing engineering, B.com, BBM, BBA, BPT, MBA. Rs 2.8 lakhs worth of scholarship were distributed.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake appreciated the efforts of Manipal Haemophilia Society and Kasturba Hospital, Manipal in providing humanitarian service to the patients. Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake also lauded the social objective of Manipal institutions in organize such a noble venture.

 A basic coagulation training and workshop organized by the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Division of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal that concluded on October 26, 2013. In these hands-on workshop, 15 participants are being trained on basic coagulation techniques. Pathologists and technologists from Udupi, Shimoga and Mangalore hospitals/colleges are being trained. The certificate of completion of training for the participants were issued by Dr H S Ballal Pro chancellor, Manipal University.

 Dr H S Ballal urged minister Shri Vinay Kumar Sorake to ensure that the “factors” that is essential in the treatment of Haemophilia be made available in all district hospitals for the benefit of the needy patients.
