Mangalore, Nov. 11: Former High Court judge Justice MF Saldanha has said that the Govt. should investigate the Sowjanya rape and murder case under the supervision of a senior judicial officer from the district.
Speaking in the press meet in the hotel woodlands he said that it is impractical to seek CBI investigation under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court. Rather the govt. should make arrangements to investigate the case under the supervision of a senior judicial officer from the district and he will be able to furnish the report within five months.
Referring to the over 434 unnatural deaths in a rural area within a span of ten years, Justice Saldanha urged the media to highlight the injustice done to the poor by the influential forces.
He described as revolutionary the formation of a state Police Complaints Authority as per the direction of the Supreme Court.
PUCL state president PB D’sa, District president Suresh Bhat and others were present at the occasion.
