Government announced 20 new projects to Health and Family Welfare Department

Mangalore, Nov. 16: The government is contemplating on finding solution to the long pending issue of delay in the disbursement of motor vehicle accident insurance to beneficiaries said Minister for health and family welfare UT Khader.

Addressing reporters at a press conference here on Saturday said that many people, who met with accident, literally struggle to pay the hospital bills and they are made to fight for insurance claims for years. “We have decided to end the unnecessary delay in the distribution of motor vehicle accident insurance through a new scheme. The government has formed a team and they are in touch with various insurance companies. Though nothing has been finalised yet, very soon a roadmap will be prepared to offer cashless treatment to those who meet with accident,” Khader told reporters.

In a bid to mitigate malnutrition among children in Karnataka, the state health department has begun distributing ‘Ayush Pushti’ biscuits for Anganwadi children below five years of age. These Ayurvedic biscuits manufactured by AYUSH department will be distributed to about 3,000 children in Bagalkot taluk and Jamakhandi area in Bagalkot district for a period of three months on a pilot basis he said.

Khader further said that if the scheme proved successful on a pilot basis, it would be implemented in the entire state thereafter, with concentration on backward areas.

Khader said that the government has sanctioned Rs 80 crore for the implementation of Rajiv Arogya Bhagya, the scheme that offer 90% discount on hospitals bills for tertiary care for APL families. “Under Rajiv Arogya Bhagya scheme, APL family members may avail cashless treatment for 400 types of procedures in 158 selected hospitals across the state. In Mangalore, APL families may avail the scheme benefit in nine hospitals,” he added.

Khader also announced that he had been selected as one of the two representatives attending the 11th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) scheduled to be held from 18 – 22 November in Bangkok, Thailand.
