Kundapur; Dec 06: The Udupi Lokayukta officials have suddenly raided one of the prime ports in the districts at Gangolli and arrested an assistant port conservation officer along with excess unaccounted cash worth thousands of rupees and produced in court.
The arrested officer has been identified as Kishore Mada, originally from Mangalore and was accused of collecting more money.
He was arrested on the basis of complaint alleging him of charging ten times more money than the stipulated fee for the boat licence renewal. Allegations of charging more for the licence renewals were hearing since quite a long time. The Lokayukta officials who after collecting vital clues on the allegations, kept a close vigil on the developments at the port for the last ten days. Once this information was confirmed by the Lokayukta officials, conducted a sudden raid on the port on Dec 06, Friday.
Even during the raid on Friday, the Lokayukta officials found an amount exceeding Rs 80,000 in the office, out of which Rs 39,700 was unaccounted cash.
The Lokayukta officials seized all the illegal money and the documents and arrested Kishore Mada and produced him before the district additional magistrate. He was then sent to judicial custody.
Udupi Lokayukta DYSP Umesh Shet, Mohan Kottar, Inspector and other staff officials were present during raid.
