Mangalore, Dec. 17: Corporation Bank donated a mid-day meal distribution vehicle to The Akshaya Patra Foundation. The vehicle was flagged off by S R Bansal, Chairman & Managing Director of the Bank at Bangalore, recently. Madhu Pandit Dasa, Chairman, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, S M Swathi, Circle General Manager, A K Vinod, Deputy General Manager and Zonal Head, Bangalore (North) and other top officials of the Bank were present on the occasion. The officials also visited the Akshaya Patra kitchen to understand the process that caters to the needs of thousands of children across the city on each school working day.

Corporation Bank commenced its partnership with Akshaya Patra in 2009 by sponsoring a mid-day meal distribution vehicle.

Speaking on the occasion, S R Bansal said, “The Akshaya Patra’s blue bus is a symbol of hope for the thousands of children across the country. The bus signifies that the child will not go hungry and we thought that the best way to be a part of this programme is by donating the mid-day meal vehicle.”

Madhu Pandit Dasa, said, “Many organizations in the banking sector have always supported Akshaya Patra in its endeavor. We are honored that reputed organizations like Corporation Bank has continued to strengthen its partnership with us. With their continued support, we hope that we will be able to reach out to more hungry children across the country and by 2020 to at least 5 million children across India.”

The custom-built vehicle is insulated to maintain optimal temperature, is dust-free and helps to retain the freshness of the meals. The meal delivery vehicle will help transport hot, nutritious meals from the centralized kitchens to about 4,000 children daily in 40 schools each day. The Akshaya Patra Foundation implements India’s largest NGO led mid-day meal programme in partnership with the Government of India, and Governments of nine states, feeding 1.3 million children every school working day in 19 locations across India.
