Sullia, Dec 26: The locals caught hold of a lorry driver who was illegally transporting rice meant for Akshara Dasoha mid-day meal scheme, to hotels and shops from the godown on Dec 25, Wednesday.
Reportedly, lorry driver, Basavaraju (55) hails from Hubli was transporting rice from of food and civil supplies godown to the godown at Arambur in Sullia.
As per the local complained, Radhakrishna Parivarakana, former president of Aletti Gram Panchayat caught the culprit red handed while unloading the rice at restaurant at Gandhinagar in Sullia. He later informed block education officer who in turn informed police.
The police arrived at the spot and arrested Basavaraju. A case has been registered in Sullia police station.
