Manipal; Feb 04: Manipal University medical student, a victim of gang rape and the prime evidence deposed before the district and Session court at district court complex, Udupi on Feb 03, Monday.
The proceeding, which started at 11.00 am confidentially in the morning in Udupi district and session court, was lasted until 4.45 pm in the evening. At this time, Magistrate B.M.Angadi, T.S.Jithuri, public prosecutor, Purushotham Poojary, the lawyer for accused and the main accused Yogish Poojary, Hariprasad and Anand were only present.
The victim, who came with her friends covering her face, identified her rapists. Then she narrated complete details of the incidents, took place on the day of her gang rape as evidence. The cross examination was conducted by Purushothama Poojary, lawyer for the accused. Complete privacy, confidentiality was maintained inside the court room during the hearing by closing the doors of the court. No outsiders were allowed to enter the court.
The summons was issued to the victim of the rape and her friend on Jan 6, to appear before the court to present their evidences.since, they had to attend for their examination and the hearing was postponed.
In these witnesses, witness of victim’s friend was dropped. The next witness hearing was postponed for the following day.
Out of 108 witnesses in the case, the court so far has heard 24 witnesses. The date for the remaining witnesses hearing will be decided tomorrow, said government prosecutor T.S.Jithuri.
