Ullal clash erupted by individuals, but given communal colour K J George

Mangalore, Feb 12: Speaking at the press meet held at District Congress Office on February 12, Wednesday, Home Minister K J George said that the recent clash erupted at Ullal was just between individuals, but was later given a communal colour by some vested interests for the political gain.

He also said that the police department had taken an effort in controlling the situation. The department has been directed to take appropriate preventive measures if such incident occurs in future too.

Minister said that the Ullal clash was provoked by few anti-social elements who do not have caste or religion, but enjoy to create problem and loot people. He also urged the Congress workers to hold a peace meeting, whenever there is indication of a clash in the district.

He also said that political and religious leaders must not intervene in the situation, when the police department is doing their job. He also assured to release the innocents arrested during the incident on bail and punish the guilty. The public must support police and government in controlling moral policing and clashes in the district.

Speaking on the Naxal issue, he said that Government is trying to bring them to the mainstream. He welcomed the Naxals who want to come to the mainstream in a democratic way. But if they are not willing for the talks, then Anti-Naxal Force will take appropriate action to tackle them.

This year the government has recruitment 8,500 police personnel after four years, he informed.

MLA J R Lobo, said that the district has witnessed several incidents and Congress government is doing good job by controlling of the situation. Further too congress workers and leaders will support him in his decision.

He also urged the home minister to expand the district jail and provide better accommodations to the police personnel’s.

Sports Minister Abhaychandra Jain, Mohammed Basheer, B Ibrahim Haji, G A Bava, P V Mohan, Shashidhar Hegde, and Mamatha Gatty were present.

Later Minister K J George then visited IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy to hold discussion.
