MANGALORE: On the final day of filing nominations on Wednesday, there were 71 nominations filed by 58 candidates in eight assembly constituencies of the district.
Maximum nominations were filed by the BJP at 13, followed by Congress at 8. Also 29 independents filed nominations with 11 filing for the Mangalore assembly constituency. Prominent among those were Mangalore MLA UT Khader, and BA Mohiudeen Bava from Congress for Mangalore North.
In Udupi, as many as 31 nominations were filed in Udupi district, the last day to do so for the May 5 assembly elections. Prominent were Vinay Kumar Sorake (Congress) and Vasanth Salian (JDS) for the Kaup assembly segment and Gopal Bhandary (Congress) in Karkala.
