Udupi; Feb 28: Addressing the Auto Rickshaw drivers and owners and various other association’s meeting, organized in Beedinagudde Devadiga Samaj, Pramodh Madhwaraj, Udupi legislator said in his address that bowing to the pressure of rickshaw drivers and owners, he takes the responsibility of increasing Rs 16 per km from earlier Rs 15 per kilo metre i.e. Rs 1 per km increase.
He also said that in this connection MP K.Jayaprakash Hegde also instructed DC to increase Rs 16 per kilo metre and held discussion with related minister. Last time even 10 BPL cards were not distributed but this time more than 10,000 BPL cards were distributed. Arrangement has been made to give BPL cards to rickshaw drivers, he said.
Ramesh Shetty, president of Jaya Karnataka Sanghatane, secretary Keshava Shettigar, Udupi rickshaw drivers and owners association’s president B.Shreenivas, Sharada union’s general secretary Shivanand, Padukere Auto rickshaw drivers and owners association’s president Satish Amin, Manipal rickshaw drivers and owners union’s president Vijaya Puthran, honorary president Ramesh Kanchan, Malpe representative Ganesh Nergi, Parkala Sudhakar Poojary and among others were present on the occasion.
