Mangalore, Apr 11: Although the Congress party had doubled checked the regulations imposed by Election commission to ensure that the expense of Rahul Gandhi rally does not fall on the local candidate from Dakshina Kannada constituency B Janardhan Poojary, but it ended up in the falling into his account.
It is learnt that, during the public rally addressed by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi at Nehru Maidan on April 4, the congress had handled the programme as per regulation without erecting hoardings featuring pictures of the candidate, so it would avoid expenses.
But unfortunately, the party was dumbfounded when chief minister Siddaramaiah and KPPC president K Parameshwar urged the voters to support the local candidate.
Speaking to the media, District electoral officer and Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said that as per the regulation, if the campaigner announces the name of candidate from the dais, then the expense should be borne by the candidate and this does not amount to any violation of model code of conduct.
He also said that the amount of Rs 6,98,401 was spent on the rally, which was debited to Poojary’s account.
Janardhana Poojary said that it is the mistake done by the party and he is ready to bear the expenses.
