Kasargod, June 2: A child, victim of Endosulfan, was admitted to the hospital on May 30, he is suspected to be killed by his own parents who later committed siuiced in the same hospital. The child was found to be choked and tied from the window grill and it is suspected that the parents killed him before ending their own lives.
Karthik (9) was suffering from Endosulfan and was supposed to get discharged on June 2. On June 1, a nurse came to his room but found it locked from inside. There was no response even after repeated knocking, the nurse then alerted the other staff. On breaking open the door, the hospital staff found the father of the boy Thamban (50), the mother Padmini (42) and Karthik hanging. Thamban and Padmini resided at Cheruvathur, earlier they had lost two other children to Endosulfan, they were depressed by the fact that their third child too was suffering critically due to Endosulfan.
The couple had not received sufficient compensation or relief package from the government despite being eligible. Thamban worked as a mason at a construction site, he was financially poor and the family demands were rising.
Commissioner Mohammed Sagir has directed Kanhangad DSP to investigate the case. A human rights group has sought a report on the incident from the DC and the police.
A case has been registered at Kanhangad police station.
