Mangalore: “Kudmul Ranga Rao was the ‘pride’ of Mangalore and he inspired Mahatma Gandhi through his social works. He gave society a message through his life. His fight for the rights to education, equality, employment of the backward classes is reflective of his personality,” said B. Ramanath Rai, Minister for forest, environment and ecology.
He was speaking after inaugurating the programme organized by Dakshina Kannada district administration, Mangalore City Corporation, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat and social welfare department, Mangalore to commemorate the 155th birth anniversary of Kudmul Ranga Rao at Town Hall in Mangalore on Sunday, June 29.
Ramanath Rai also paid floral tribute to Kudmul Ranga Rao.
Addressing the gathering, Mahabala Marla, Mayor, Mangalore City Corporation, said that Late Ranga Rao was a man of high standards and lived for upliftment of the dalits, throughout his life he had been working for giving the dalits their share of societal status.
Ajith Kumar Hegde, commissioner, MCC, Moideen Bava, MLA, Mangalore North, A.B. Ibrahim, DC, Dakshina Kannada, Dr. Prashanth, assistant commissioner, Sathish Kumpala, vice-president, Zilla Panchayat and other officials were present.
