Mangalore, July 25: A lady allegedly slapped a traffic policewoman at Hampankatta here on Thursday July 24 evening which caused chaos in the area.
Sources said that the lady was riding her two-wheeler towards Falnir, when an Omni car moving from the Central railway station side collided with her vehicle. A policewoman, said to be SI of Kadri traffic police, who witnessed the minor accident came towards them and after enquiring, reportedly let the Omni car move on while making the lady stay back.
The lady grew angry at this, and an argument sparked off between her and the traffic policewoman. The lady insisted that it was the Omni driver’s fault, but the policewoman reportedly refused to listen. It is said that the lady was not wearing helmet and that was main reason she was stopped. Finally, in a fit of anger, the lady allegedly slapped the policewoman.
Seeing this, a crowd immediately gathered at the spot. More policewomen also arrived and tried to drag away the lady. The crowd however, came to her support and protested against the police. As the situation threatened to go out of hand, the police resorted to mild lathi charge and dispersed the crowd.
The woman was finally taken to the police station. Police sources said that she ‘escaped’ from the police station after a case was filed.
