Mangalore, Aug 02: As part of the annual feast at St. Lawrence Church, Bondel, the nine-day novena commenced here on Friday August 01.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Mangalore North MLA Mohiuddin Bava by hoisting the flag of St. Lawrence, after which he lit the traditional lamp in the presence of other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Bava said that he was proud of Christian community that has contributed in a large scale towards the growth of education in Mangalore.
Corporator Kavita Sanil, Chancellor of Mangalore diocese Henry Sequeira, parish priest Fr Andrew D’Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Jaison Monis and vice-president of St Lawrence Church Bondel Henbert Pinto, secretary Wlfred Alvares and others were present.
Ending at August 09, the novena will be held at 11 am followed by lunch every day.
