Mangalore, August 12: Since the family members of a house were asleep, the thieves were successful in robbing gold jewellery and cash from the house. On Sunday August 10th the house of Mr Leo Cutinha, residing at Subrahmanya Temple Road of Tokur has been burgled after mid night.
The thieves took entry into the house through the back door, straightaway went to the room where money and valuables were kept and looted gold ornaments worth Rs 1,44,000 along with a bag containing cash Rs 9,000 besides another bag with valuable documents.
Mr Leo Cutinha explained that he was surprised that the dog of their house did not notice the thieves sneaking into their house. Since his dog used to bark continuously even at feeble sounds; it appeared strange that it remained quiet the entire night on Sunday, he stated.
Involvement of familiar persons: The thieves in order to gain entry into the house through the back door, had used a long stick fitted with an aluminium cable at its end and inserted it into the house through the window of the kitchen, for sliding the bolt of the rear door. Directly they went to the room where ornaments and other valuables were kept without going to other rooms. The fact that the dog did not bark at them has raised a suspicion whether well-known persons have been involved in this theft.
Mr Leo Cutinha, was sleeping in the room where the theft had taken place. His son and daughter were sleeping in the rooms which are located in front of this room. The family members said that Leo’s daughter was studying and awake till late night on Sunday. The fact that the thieves came in after all the members went to sleep by removing the rear door, and that they could tactfully complete their task without making any sound and ensuring that those sleeping close by did not wake up, gives rise to a suspicion about the usage of chloroform or any other drug by them, said the cops.
A case has been registered by Mulky cops. The spot was inspected along with finger print experts and investigation is on.
