Mangalore, August 12, 2014: A tricky man who used to tactfully rob jewellery of women after befriending them, taking them on an outing has been taken to custody by the Shirva police on August 11th, Monday. The accused is identified as Stephen Arun Almeida aged 33 years, a resident of Bantakallu-Heroor close to Shirva.
Almeida Police have recovered a mangalasutra chain weighing three and a half sovereigns from him. Shirva inspector Ashok P was on his patrol at Belman Janthra-Pelattakatte where the accused was trapped on suspicion when he was found moving suspiciously. The accused revealed that he sold a 12 gram mangalasutra at a jewellery shop in Mangalore, and it is seized by the police.
His technique was to trap women to his love and later used to take them for an outing under favourable situation. He used to spend abundantly on the women and finally escape with cash and jewellery from them stating some reason.
The cops have gathered that Almeida had two cases against him in Udupi and one each in Manipal and Pandeshwar police station.
Further investigations are going on and the seized gold is believed to belong to a woman from Pandeshwar.
