Mangalore, Aug 18: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will organize ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ at Town Hall on August 20, Wednesday at 9 am.
Speaking at the press meet held at Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy office, on Aug 18 Monday, Academy president Roy Castelino said that, to mark the day, talent show will be held at 9 am, while the celebration will be held at 5 pm.
He also said that, the Konkani speaking people celebrate the day of their existence from past 22 years, but this year academy will celebrate the day with a difference.
MCC Mayor Mahabala Marla, will hoist the Konkani flag and inaugurate the event. Public Education Department Deputy Director Walter D’Mello and DIET principal Cyprian Monteiro will participate as the chief guest, he said.
District in – charge Minister and state Forest Minister Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the celebration in the evening. MLA J R Lobo will preside over the event while, State Health Minister U T Khader will be the chief guest.
State Youth Affair and Sports Minister Abhayachandra Jain, MLA Moideen Bawa, MLC Ivan D’Souza and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will participate as the guests of Honour.
Dr Jayawanth Nayak will deliver a lecture on Konkani Recognition. Venkatesh Baliga editor of Kodial Khabar and Irene Rebello will host the event, Roy informed.
The academy will distribute Konkani Fellowship to Dr Jayawanth Nayak for his research work on the topic ‘Traditional celebration of Konkani speaking people’, Geetha Shenoy for ‘Contribution of Konkani Female writers’ and Manjunath Kamath for research on ‘Konkani Journalism’.
M A Degree from Goa University:
Roy said that, there is necessity to set up a Research centre for Konkani language at Mangalore University and there is need of Konkani lecturers for College with MA Degree in Konkani.
At present only Goa University has MA course in Konkani and there is possibility to commence this in Karnataka too he added.
He also said that Academy will bear the fee for two candidates with BA degree willing to pursue their MA education in Konkani from Goa University.
