Mangalore, September 8: The Cops atPandeshwar station in the city arrested two persons on Sunday September 7th who had allegedly involved in chain snatching, theft of vehicles and valuables. Valuables worth Rs 1.12 lakh including a motor bike and gold ornaments were seized from them. The duo was arrested at Shivanagar in Pandeshwar. The Cops visited the spot after learning about two persons moving suspiciously around the area on a Yamaha motor bike.
The arrested youths are identified as Muneer (21) from Kalloni in Bajpe Shantigudde and Sairaj (20) from Angaragundi near Bykampady. Two Mangalya neck chains, copies of documents pertaining to certain vehicles and the motor bike reportedly used by them for thefts, were seized from them.
It is reported that, the policemen, immediately after sighting the motor bike, blocked movement of the thieves by placing the jeep across the road. When asked to produce vehicle records, they produced the photo-copies of the documents, which did not match with the vehicle they were riding. They were arrested on suspicion, and their escapades came to light during sustained interrogation.
It is gathered that, the two arrested persons have revealed the theft of a motor bike from the BCM hostel compound in Kairangala, snatching of two chains from the necks of women participating in the Mosaru Kudke festival on August 18th at Katipalla Suratkal, cash and utensils from the house located near Infosys Technologies Ltd at Konaje here on August 7th.
The modus operandi adopted by the thieves for snatching chains from the neck of lonely women was to approach the women in the guise of stranger seeking to know some fake address and snatching away the chain when the attention of the women is elsewhere. Post which the chain snatcher runs away and ride on the pillion of the motor bike that would be waiting for him some distance away.
The Cops are checking the reliability of these statements and investigating on the possibility of duos involvement in other burglary.
