‘DCM post, expansion, prerogative of CM’

Senior Congress leader in-charge of Karnataka, Digvijay Singh, has come down heavily on what he termed as the ‘double standard’ of the BJP on issues of communalism.

Speaking to press persons at Belgaum District Congress Committee Office here on Wednesday, Mr Digvijay Singh said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about having no communal tension for the next ten years, his own MP Mahanta Adityanath made hate speeches.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeks to know what is meant by ‘Love Jihad’. Probably he has not read ‘Panchajanya’ brought out by the RSS. It is the double standard of the BJP that while one instigates communal feelings, the other wears the mask of communal harmony,” he said.

Mr Singh said that BJP had “sown the seeds of communal clash” in North Karnataka and Congress would be holding communal harmony meetings in the coming days.

To a query, he said that it had come to his notice that Karnataka lacked a good team to present its case before the supreme court and he would take up the issue with the chief minister.

To another query, he clarified that the creation of the post of Deputy Chief Minister and the expansion of the cabinet was the prerogative of the chief minister and he had been authorised to take the suitable decision.
