Bengaluru: Following late night showers on Friday, the BBMP control room was flooded with complaints on garbage clearance, uprooted trees and water logging in several parts of the city.

For the past few days, the BBMP has not cleared garbage in several parts adding to the chaos on Saturday morning. Complaints poured in from Rajajinagar, J.P. Nagar, Mico Layout, BHEL Layout, Kumaraswamy Layout and Murugesh Palya.

Though corporators had insisted that solid waste management officials should not take off until the rainy days are over, officials seem to have ignored the instruction.

Sources said that many BBMP engineers who had taken off during Ayudha Pooja had still not returned to work. District in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy, who confirmed that not all BBMP officials had reported back to work, said he would go on city rounds on Monday.

“We had told the engineers not to take a holiday, but they don’t follow as this is one of the biggest festivals. In wards where garbage problems are severe, I will suspend officials during my inspection on Monday,” he said.

Meanwhile, officials in the BBMP control room said trees were uprooted in Atiguppe, Ram Mandir Road in Hanumanthanagar, Vijaynagar, Koramangala 8th Block, Chamrajpet and Chickpet.

In Yelahanka, life was thrown out of gear as the overflowing water from Yelahanka and Allalasandra lakes entered around 150 homes in the vicinity of the lakes. Roads were submerged disrupting traffic.

Also, water logging was reported from Marutinagar, Herohalli, Kempanna Layout, Cholanayakanahalli, Vrishbhavatinagar, Kogilu Cross, Yelahanka, Anepalya, Shantinagar, Malleswaram, Padaranayanapura, Ejipura and Tannery Road.

The officials said that water logging was reported in Kino Theatre. BBMP gang men rushed to the spot to pump out the water, they said.
