Yettinahole project to ease drinking water crisis

BANGALORE: Karnataka will soon take up the Yettinahole project to provide drinking water to Bangalore Rural, Kolar, Tumkur and Chikkaballapur districts shortly.

Replying to a debate on the drinking water crisis in Kolar and adjoining districts, leader of the House in the legislative council on Tuesday said the government would quickly finalize all preparations for the project and take up the tender process.

Yettinahole is a tributary of the Netravathi river. Plans are afoot to divert the west flowing river and its tributaries in the Palar-Pennar basin. As per the project, 24 tmcft of water will be drawn from Yettinahole and pumped to the beneficiary districts. The project involves constructing water reservoirs and dams at an estimated cost of Rs 7,300 crore.
