Mysore/Mandya, Aug 18, 2013: Union Minister for Railways Mallikarjuna Kharge campaigned for Mandya Lok Sabha constituency by-polls Congress candidate Ramya at Poorigali, in the taluk, on Sunday.
The Congress initiated the free midday meal scheme in schools, Right to Education Act and other progressive measures for the uplift of oppressed sections of the society. More such projects aimed at welfare of the poor can be expected by voting for the party candidate, he said.
Aiming his ire at the pact between the BJP, KJP and JD(S), he said, the parties are without any principles. “Their only principle, it appears, is to defeat the Congress,” he said.
People have closely observed the activities of these parties. They will be taught an appropriate lesson in the elections, he said.
Revanna campaigns
MLA H D Revanna said, the Congress should stop making baseless allegations against the JD(S).
He was speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, after participating in electioneering at Hosa Agrahar, Mirle, Saligrama and Chunchanakatte of the taluk, for Mandya Lok Sabha by-polls JD(S) candidate C S Puttaraju.
He said, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah levelling allegations against former prime minister H D Deve Gowda was uncalled for his position as chief minister.
He said, even though the Congress is in power at the Centre, Siddaramaiah did not bother to look into the problems of coconut growers in State.
But, Deve Gowda met the Union Agriculture Minister and has urged him for compensation similar to that given to farmers in Kerala.
MLA Sa Ra Mahesh said, the Congress should introspect while pointing out ‘family politics’ in the JD(S).
JD(S) candidate Puttaraju, MLAs G T Devegowda and Chikkamadu, actor-director S Narayan and others were present.
