kumaraswamyShimoga:  The Janata Dal (Secular) will not join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) “at any cost” as the latter has projected Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly H.D. Kumaraswamy has said.

He has ruled out any pre-poll alliance with any political party for the Lok Sabha elections. He said that the names of the candidates for 16 seats would be announced by the end of September.

Mr. Kumaraswamy has said that the Janata Dal(S) was part of the “third front” and would like to maintain distance from both the Congress and the BJP.

On the results of the recent byelections in Bangalore Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha constituencies, he said that as the BJP was sure that it could not win the byelections in these constituencies, it extended support to the Janata Dal(S). Due to this, the Janata Dal(S) could not get the support of the minorities in the two constituencies, he said.
