BANGALORE: Four masked men barged into the house of Kannada film actor P Harsha, threatened four members of the family with machetes and fled with mobiles, cash, gold and silver, together worth around Rs 8 lakh, on Sunday night in Nagarbhavi, west Bangalore.

The film and TV-serial actor told police the culprits entered the house around 10pm. He lives there with his father Prakash, an Andhra Pradesh government employee, mother P Vimala and a relative.

Harsha, who had returned from a film shoot around 9.45pm, said: “I opened the gate and was pushing my motorcycle inside when four men walked in. When I asked them who they were, one of them said they would tell me later.”

Prakash, who was visiting his family for the weekend, said: “Suddenly, the four men pulled out machetes.” The thieves herded the four family members into the bedroom and ordered them to sit down. Two men stood guard. They threatened actor’s father with machete

Actor Harsha said: “When my father tried to put up resistance, one of them placed his machete to his neck. I pleaded with the men not to harm anyone and told them I’d cooperate.”

The men took the almirah keys, removed all the valuables and put them into a gunny bag. They also took away Rs 1 lakh in cash.”My mother offered her mangalsutra, but they refused to take it. They ordered us not to shout for help or move, locked the main door from outside, and fled,” Harsha said. Vimala remembered that her mobile, kept on the dining table, hadn’t been spotted as it covered by a cloth. “We called neighbours and relatives. One of them discovered the keys kept near the gate and opened the door,” Harsha said.

The family called the police and a dog squad. Police suspect someone known to the family committed the crime. Harsha had recently acted in the movie Raja Huli.
