D.C. Thammanna, MLA, said that he would give priority to canal repair work and get lift irrigation projects sanctioned for his constituency.
Participating in a media interaction on ‘Water and electricity to Maddur’ there on Saturday, which was organised by the State and Regional Press Reporters’ Forum (SRPRF), Mr. Thammanna said that the State had sanctioned three lift irrigations projects for Maddur.
Technical experts of the Irrigation Department have already visited places identified for the proposed projects and are busy preparing reports for the projects.
The proposed projects will come up in Athaguru, Chikkarasinakere and Kasaba hoblis in the taluk, the MLA said.
“We have failed to utilise the Shimsha waters because of various reasons. We will fill at least 60 tanks through the proposed lift irrigation projects,” he said.
He added that efforts would be made for the optimum utilisation of water from Iggalur barrage and to supply water to the tail end areas of various canals in the taluk.
Transformers repairs
A transformer repair unit will start functioning within 15 days in Maddur. As many as 3,500 illegal irrigation pumpsets were identified, the MLA said.
