City in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy, local MLA and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Road and Mayor B.S. Sathyanarayana on Thursday laid the foundation stone for construction of a road behind Mantri Square mall. It will connect Platform Road to Mill Road.
The work, which is expected to begin soon, is part of a few projects planned by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to decongest Sampige Road.
As per the public-private partnership agreement between Mantri Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., a division of Mantri Developers, and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. for the construction of Sampige Road metro station, the developer is obliged to construct the road behind the mall.
Mr. Sathyanarayana said that the road would be about 600 metres long and would cost Rs. 9 crore. “The work is likely to be completed in 75 days,” he said.
The other projects include development of a road parallel to Sampige Road and the railway track behind Mantri Square. There is a proposal for a skywalk between Sampige Road and Rajiv Gandhi Circle, to be constructed by Mantri Developers, and an underpass near the railway track in Sriramapuram, to be constructed by South Western Railway. “The underpass is essential. Many local residents risk their lives crossing the tracks,” the Mayor said.
