Bangalore: A young mother reportedly committed suicide at her home in Begur on Tuesday night, in a suspected act of depression after her family rejected her suggestion that they celebrate the birthday of her elder son separately from the naming ceremony of her seven-month-old child.
Pushpa, 29, is alleged to have hanged herself from the ceiling of her home after leaving her second child to the take care of her parents who live next door, by telling them she had household chores.
She went to her home and hanged herself, the police said. Her family members panicked when they did not see her for long. A while later, her suicide came to light.
Tiff with husband
Police further said that Pushpa had argued with her husband, Shanmuga, and other family members on celebrating her son’s birthday which falls on March 11 (Tuesday).
Her family suggested that the birthday celebrations could be organised along with the naming ceremony of her second child in order to cut down on expenses.
But Pushpa did not agree and kept arguing with her husband, who works for a travel company. When she did not get her way, she allegedly took the extreme step, the police informed.
Crushed by lorry
A middle-aged woman, who was riding pillion on her husband’s two-wheeler, was killed when a sand lorry rear-ended their motorcycle near Dasarahalli on Thursday, the Peenya traffic police said.
Bhagyamma, 48, and her husband Chandrashekar, 58, were on their way to attending a housewarming ceremony in Bagalakunte when the lorry hit their two-wheeler.
As Bhagyamma fell off the vehicle, the lorry ran her over, crushing her torso. She was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to injuries later, police added.
The driver fled the scene after abandoning the lorry. Police said they were looking out for him. The couple lived in Lakshminarayanapuram, Srirampura.
