BANGALORE: A plumber stabbed his estranged wife 43 times, furious over her plea for Rs 2,000 as monthly maintenance. The incident happened in their Kumaraswamy Layout residence on Friday. The woman, a garment worker, later succumbed to injuries in a hospital.
Plumber Rajesh Kumar, 35, and Sharada, 28, had tied the knot 12 years ago and stayed in a single-room tenement near F-bus stop of Kumaraswamy Layout. They had three children. The couple fought over trivial issues and had filed for divorce.
“Sharada’s advocate asked for a monthly maintenance of Rs 2,000. Rajesh refused to sign the papers, saying he could not pay that much,” a neighbour said.
Rajesh is said to have lost cool when Sharada sought money for household expenses on Thursday. They resumed fighting on Friday. “Rajesh stabbed her 43 times with a doubleedged aluminium knife,” police said. Neighbours came to her help. Shifted to a hospital, Sharada died later.
“A deep cut in the throat vein proved fatal,” police added. Rajesh, who was thrashed by neighbours, is in the ICU of Victoria Hospital.
