Yashwant Chittal, one of Kannada’s foremost writers, passed away in a hospital in Mumbai at 11.15 p.m. on Saturday. The 86-year-old writer was admitted to the hospital on February 14 after he suffered a paralytic stroke.
Mr. Chittal was a recipient of many awards, including the Pampa Prashasti and Central Sahitya Akademi award, as well as an honour from the Library of Congress in Washington DC, U.S. His contribution to Kannada literature is monumental. Some of his works include Shikhari , Kendra Vruttanta , and Mooru Daarigalu . His most recent works were a collection of short stories Koli Kooguva Munna and a collection of essays Antahkarana .
Mr. Chittal is survived by his wife, two sons, and thousands of admirers.
The last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Sunday.
