Bangalore: Pre-monsoon showers continued to pound many parts of the State, affecting normal life, on Wednesday.
Somachari, 55, and his brother Rajappa, 45, died due to heavy downpour at Shiramalli in H D Kote taluk of Mysore district on Wednesday afternoon.
Somachari’s wife Chandramma, their four-year-old grandson Keerthi were injured when lightning struck them. The incident occurred when they were standing under a tree in their field after it started raining. Shivakumar and Karigowda, who were working in the neighbouring field, also sustained injuries.
Water entered houses as drains overflowed due to heavy rain at Halebid in Hassan district.
Vehicles damaged
Heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, lashed various parts of Shimoga city, throwing normal life out of gear, on Wednesday evening.
The rain that started around 4.30 pm lasted for 30 minutes. Branches of several trees came down and damaged two autorickshaws on RMR Road, a car and two bikes.
Five persons sustained injuries when branches of trees fell on the vehicles near Nanjappa Hospital. They are undergoing treatment at McGann Hospital. Of the five, two are autorickshaw drivers – Ashok and Arun – and the rest are passengers.
Cooling effect in Belgaum
Belgaum city received heavy unseasonal rains for about half an hour on Wednesday evening, bringing respite for the people from the summer heat.”
The northern parts of the city and extension areas like Nehru Nagar, Club Road and Hanuman Nagar, received heavy rain for about 30 minutes, accompanied by thunder.A tree was uprooted on Club Road due to heavy winds, but there weren’t any casualties.
