Shivanasamudra(DHNS): It was a double delight for visitors to the annual Jalapathotsava (waterfalls festival) here on Saturday.
River Cauvery, the life of the district, cascaded down a tall cliff in a milky formation, much to the joy of the gathering.
Not far away from the misty magic of the thundering waterfalls, cultural programmes enthralled those gathered for the yearly celebration of water abundance. The falls are situated at Shivanasamudra in Malavalli taluk of the district. Water from the KRS and Kabini dams dived from a height of 370 feet to mesmerise those people. Watching the water flow down with force, on to the boulders, amidst the greenery, was a treat to the eyes.
Being a Saturday, tourists had arrived in large numbers. People of villages nearby had also come to enjoy the festival.
A photography competition was organised, where participants had to click photos of the waterfall. Shutterbugs pushed and shoved each other at the visitors’ gallery, for a vantage position to click the best snap.
The event, which started at around 11 am, went on till 10 pm. Dance and music performances were arranged to entertain the visitors. The audience cheered the dance groups as they performed kamsale, kilu kudure, halakki, suggi, puja and dollu kunita dances. Musicians rendered songs in various forms of music like folk, devotional and light. Film songs were sung by a troupe led by music director Arjun Janya.
