Two leaders share dais at a private function in Hassan
Janata Dal (Secular) supremo and H.D. Deve Gowda and Congress leader C.M. Ibrahim, who is the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board, shared the dais for the first time in 14 years at a private function here on Sunday. Mr. Ibrahim, in his address, praised Mr. Gowda.
Mr. Ibrahim, who was once State president of the JD(S) and also a Minister in Mr. Gowda’s Cabinet at the Centre, had quit the party along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others. They shared the dais on Sunday during the inauguration of a private hospital set up by Abdul Basheer, an orthopaedic surgeon.
“The orthopaedic surgeon is known for fixing broken bones. But, at this function, he has brought both of us together after 14 years,” he said.
Stating that he might have criticised Mr. Gowda in the past, Mr. Ibrahim said he had a lot of respect for Mr. Gowda’s service to the nation. “The country needs the services of such leaders,” he said.
