They made threat calls to a Tilak Nagar-based businessman; next target was Bollywood director-producer Mahesh Bhatt

Continuing their crackdown against members of Ravi Pujari gang, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested three people, who were allegedly trying to extort Rs 2 crore from a Tilak Nagar-based businessman, yesterday.

The police said the members of the Ravi Pujari gang had been making threat calls to a civil contractor and earthworks businessman from Chembur since October 30.

Call records
The businessman had lodged a complaint about the persistent calls with the crime branch. The crime branch traced the call records and have arrested three accused — Vijay Rao, Mahesh Lohar and Sudhakar Pugge.

While Rao is a resident of Navi Mumbai, Lohar and Pugge hail from Pune.

‘Gang active again’
“We conducted a thorough investigation and arrested three members of the Pujari gang, which became very active recently. Mahesh Bhatt, Bollywood director and producer, was their next target,” said a crime branch officer, on condition of anonymity.
