Mumbai: In Mumbai, a 23-year-old woman and her paramour were arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of her husband after he left a 44-minute video blaming both of them.
Jayesh Raut, a 29-year-old businessman, committed suicide in his fourth-floor apartment in Sion’s Pratiksha Nagar on November 18 and recorded his statement as well as his death on his phone. The video also included a suicide note in which Raut blamed his wife Trupti and her 38-year-old paramour Rajesh Verma.
In the video, Raut said that he had been depressed because his wife had not ended her extra-marital affair with Verma despite his many entreaties.
Before killing himself, Raut messaged Trupti asking her to watch the suicide clip. Both Trupti and Verma were arrested on November 23 and sent to police custody till Wednesday.
Raut had married Trupti in February after courting her for nine years. Raut got to know of Trupti’s extra-marital affair after she confessed to it in March during a fight. The situation became such that despite Raut’s counselling, she left him and did not come back for four months, opting instead to stay at her paramour’s place in Virar.
On November 16, Trupti returned and informed Raut that she was two-months pregnant. On November 18, after a heated argument with Raut, Verma came and took Trupti away. Raut at that time, had tried to stop her by slashing his own wrists, but to no avail.
Later that day, Raut messaged Trupti and told her to watch the recording of his suicide after which he put the phone on a table and hanged himself. Trupti informed Raut’s brother who in turn rushed to his place and found Raut dead.
The police are investigating the matter.
