Chicago, Aug 12: It was a bright sunny day with cool breeze flowing around the Katherine Peterson Park of Vernon Hills all day long. It was a perfect weather for outdoor picnic. The Mangalorean Konkan Christians Association members and guests were all in high spirits to have memorable fun of this annual event.
The youth present enjoyed the Indian’s favorite pastime sport of playing cricket at the lush green lawn of the park. Others took part in playing volleyball, which attracted mostly youth to the court. Young and old enjoyed to watch the acrobatic moves of the players in the court. Some of the participants raced against the wind in playing shuttle badminton.
There was plenty of food prepared by the committee members, members and guests. There was variety of food, pasta salad, Mexican style corn-on-cob, sheera and other items, which the participants enjoyed to rejuvenate their strengths to the forthcoming games and sports in the afternoon.
There were variety of competitions organized by Dorothy Rego:
· Years 5 and below: Musical Chairs – Winner: Olivia Serrao; Runner-up: Sherwyn Lasrado.
· Years 7 – 18: Lemon n Spoon Race – Winner: Shannon D’Souza; Runner-up: Ashelle Monteiro.
· Women Sack Race: Winner – Florine Rodrigues; Runner-up – Sabrina Wing.
· Men’s Sack Race: Winner: Jossie Mendonca; Runner-up: Lance Quadros.
· Doubles Sack Race – Winner: Stany and Vissia D’Souza; Runner-up: Florine Rodrigues and Senitha Misquitha.
In addition to these these competitions organizers arranged popular games like, water balloon throw and tug-of-war. It was interesting to see women beating men hands down in tug-of-war showdown!
All the participants enjoyed the refreshing tea, coffee, lemonade, watermelons and other soft drinks to cool-down their body drenched in sweat. Although it was all sunny, the participants enjoyed the activities arranged until the late afternoon hours! It was all out fun day for the participants present especially the youth. This fun filled event was lead by the Chairperson, Jossie Mendonca.
The winners of the games were awarded prizes by the event chairperson Mr. Mendonca and the president of the Association Steven D’Souza. The organizers announced that their next event is Monthi Fest, which will be held at Techny Towers in Northbrook on September 6, 2014.
