Mangaluru, Dec 8: The protest called by VHP and Bajrang Dal has received a good response and Section 144 has been imposed at Ulaibettu, Gurupur, Vamanjoor and other areas close by to avoid untoward incidents. Traffic has come to rest.
The cops had stopped the activists of Hindu associations from entering Ulaibettu who reached there by a procession. Meanwhile, the protestors began to rush ahead and they were unsuccessful. The VHP leader Jagadish shenava, HJV leader Satyajith Suratkal, Sharan Pumpwell-convener of Bajranga Dhal failed in their efforts to pacify the protestors.
Hindu leaders arrested:
The activists of Bhajranga Dhal, HJV and VHP associations tried to move ahead into Ulaibettu violating Section 144 and hence the cops resorted to lathi charge. The cops have arrested two buses full of protestors. Many leaders such as VHP leader Jagadish shenava, Satyajith Suratkal, Prasad Attavara and others have been arrested.
Sharan Pumpwell urged the activists to return back to their homes. The protest then came to an end and the crowd began to disperse.
As of now situation is under control. People preferred to remain indoors. Strict police and KSRP vigil is deployed in these areas. Miscreants had attempted to set a bakery on fire and the timely action of cops has averted the mishap. It is gathered that four cops were also injured when they tried to control the mob.
